Working days of the Monarto Trails Working Group

After the very successful opening on 24th April volunteers had a short break.
They are now back at it!!!

The dates for working mornings on the Jailbreak trail network at Monarto by the Monarto Trails Working group are below.

The next Murray Bridge Hills Trails working bee will be held this Sunday (31 July).

Meet at Maurice Road parking area, 400 metres west of Mobilong Gaol entrance gate (9.00am). Will finish by 12 noon.

The plan is to undertake remediation of erosion along some of the closed trails.

Forecast weather: 20 degrees max, possible showers.

Despite being winter months, visitors to the area seem to be increasing markedly.
Seven days/week – lots of walkers, runners, mountain bikers and people studying the natural environment.

Note that some Saturdays are now added by demand as many can’t attend on Sundays.
June, July and August out of the way.

  • Sunday 27th November.

The weekend following the Webb Gap activities, on Sunday 24th April, another new trail network will be opened at Monarto.
There are currently two loop and one spur trails as well as the main trail offering a number of options for walkers and mountain bikers.

The day’s activities get underway at 10.00 am with three grades of mountain bike rides (expert, intermediate & beginner), runners and then walkers. All activities will be led by guides and are of different lengths to suit all grades of fitness and experience.

The event is designed as a social and fun event not competitive. Maps will be available on the day when registering.
All those attending will be provided a BBQ lunch and drinks.

The official opening of the trail network will be 12.00 noon.

Location is off Maurice Road, several hundred metres past the entrance to the Mobilong Prison. The entrance will be signposted. Maurice Road is the first set of traffic lights on Princess Highway in Murray Bridge if coming from Adelaide. Turn left into Maurice Road at these traffic lights to the event.

Meet at Hartman Road Monarto at the ruin 1km East of Frahns Farm Road.

Walkers, mountain bikers and NRM staff are continuing to formalize trails at Monarto by eliminating unauthorized trails and creating a sustainable trail network suitable for walkers and bike riders.

ALL WELCOME to the next work morning.

Currently dubbed the “Jailbreak Trail”, the group aims to meet regularly each month to upgrade this section of the trail.

This is the 2015 planning for trail construction & upgrade work in the Monarto area.

Priorities are to close unauthorized trails across the Narrinyeri Hills between Maurice Road and the Princess Highway.
Formalize & mark the Jailbreak Trail with a link down into Rocky Gully to join the Lavender Federation Trail and a link into Murray Bridge.
Upgrade the Lavender Federation Trail through Rocky Gully to eliminate erosion points and make the trail more suitable for Mountain Bikes.
Re-investigate the construction of the Rocky Gully Loop Trail.
